Meet your speakers

Dr. Richard Magtengaard

Dr Richard Magtengaard brings nearly 25 years of extensive experience in mental health, with a distinguished background spanning public and private practice as well as the not-for-profit sector. Before beginning his medical career, Dr Magtengaard served as a Commissioned Officer in the Royal Australian Navy, specialising in bridge, harbour watchkeeping, and navigation for 10 years. This experience has given him a deep understanding of the unique mental health needs and challenges faced by those in Defence and veterans.

Currently, Dr Magtengaard leads the Trauma Recovery Programme across two major sites in Perth: Bethesda Clinic, a Tier 1 DVA Accredited private hospital, and ANZAC House Veteran Central. His programme is dedicated to supporting the recovery of Defence personnel, veterans, first responders, and their families who have experienced physical and psychological traumas. Beyond his clinical roles, Dr Magtengaard is an active Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee at Bethesda Clinic and serves on advisory boards for Open Arms, St John Ambulance, and the Australasian Military Medical Association (AMMA). He also works closely with various ex-service organisations, police, and emergency services, demonstrating his commitment to those who serve Australia.

Dr. Michael Mumford

Principal GP at Medical Professionals Dapto and Southern Cross Pain Clinic, Dr. Mumford specialises in veteran healthcare, with a focus on chronic pain and mental health conditions. His dedication to this field shapes the mission of the Veteran Access Scheme™, which aims to support the unique health needs of Australian veterans.
