Introduction: Veteran health and wellbeing

At Provocatus, we recognise the unique challenges faced by ADF veterans. Your service to our nation is invaluable, and so is your well-being.

Below, you will find a range of conditions that may affect your life on a daily basis. Whether you're dealing with tinnitus, lumbar spondylosis, or any other listed condition, you're not alone.

This page provides you information on the top 20 health conditions recognised by the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA).

Our comprehensive resources are designed to inform and support you on your health journey.

A health condition refers to any illness, injury, or disease that affects your physical or mental well-being. For veterans, these conditions may result from their service, impacting their ability to perform daily activities.

Ensuring veteran health and well-being of veterans and first responders is vital, not only for their individual quality of life but also for the broader community they influence.

Kasey Mumford, CEO Provocatus

“We are really passionate about providing equitable access to veterans who are looking for alternate treatment for chronic pain.”

Mental health conditions

Mental health conditions are disorders that can significantly impact emotional, psychological, and social well-being. These challenges are often complex, especially for veterans who may face unique stressors and experiences stemming from their service.

The Department of Veterans' Affairs recognises several mental health conditions that veterans commonly experience, including PTSD, depression, and anxiety disorders.^

At Provocatus, we aim to support veterans in understanding and managing these conditions via our Veteran Access Scheme™ founded on the four Pillars of Care

For a deeper understanding of PTSD and its impacts, visit our page on Understanding PTSD in Veterans. Additionally, Psychologist Beth Masling’s webinar, “Grit: Strengthening the Mind and Body”, provides insights into building resilience and mental strength.

Addressing mental health is not just about individual well-being but also strengthening family ties, fostering community connections, and improving overall quality of life.

Making a DVA claim for a service-related condition

Veterans who experience health conditions linked to their service may be eligible to make a DVA claim, which provides vital access to support and treatments.

The process can connect veterans with medical care, mental health support, and other essential resources tailored to their unique needs.

To assist in navigating this process call the DVA directly on 1800 VETERAN (1800 838 372) or visit Navigating DVA Claims: A Guide for Australian Veterans.
