1800 IMSICK: A helpline for ADF personnel

When Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel are unwell after hours or stationed far from their base, knowing where to turn for help is crucial.

In these moments, 1800 IMSICK (1800 467 425) is a vital lifeline. This 24-hour national hotline provides immediate health support, ensuring serving members receive the care and guidance they need, wherever they are.

What is 1800 IMSICK?

1800 IMSICK is a telephone-based health service connecting ADF members with registered nurses who provide expert triage and guidance. It’s specifically designed for times when illness or injury occurs outside normal hours or far from on-base health facilities.

Who can use 1800 IMSICK?

  • All serving ADF members within Australia.

  • Entitled personnel experiencing non-life-threatening health concerns.

Provocatus understands the challenges veterans and active ADF personnel face in accessing comprehensive health care.

Visit our Crisis Support Page for a list of crisis support services for Australian Veterans and veteran families, both serving and ex-serving.

How the 1800 IMSICK service works

When you call 1800 IMSICK, you'll be connected to a registered nurse who will ask for the following information to assist you effectively:

  • Name

  • Date of birth

  • PMKeyS number (employee ID)

  • Base, unit, and location

  • Contact phone details

After gathering your information, the nurse will assess your health concerns and provide tailored advice, which may include:

  • Self-care measures for minor illnesses

  • Guidance on attending an on-base or off-base healthcare facility

  • Referral to an emergency department if necessary

If you're referred to a healthcare service provider or facility, you have the option to receive the contact and location details via SMS for your convenience.

Please note, 1800 IMSICK is not an emergency number. In case of an emergency, dial 000.

Additionally, the service cannot provide approval for sick leave; ADF members must seek approval from their Command for any sick leave and inform them if they will not be reporting for duty.
