Out of the Shadows: Walk for World Suicide Prevention Day

On Tuesday, 10th September 2024, our team at Provocatus will join Lifeline South Coast for the Out of the Shadows Walk in Wollongong.

Held at sunrise to mark World Suicide Prevention Day, the walk shines a light on suicide in Australia and brings communities together in solidarity. 

This year’s walk takes on even greater significance in the wake of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide, which concluded its three-year inquiry just last week.

The official report, due to be released on September 9th 2024, will highlight the challenges faced by serving and ex-service members.

Over the past decade, the veteran community has tragically lost an average of 78 members to suicide each year, with three lives lost every fortnight. 

At Provocatus, we recognise the profound impact of this issue on veterans and their families.

Our participation in the Out of the Shadows Walk reflects our commitment to supporting those affected by suicide and working towards removing the stigma surrounding mental health.
