Navigating Veteran Health Care: Insights from Dr. Michael Mumford’s Webinar

In a recent webinar, Dr. Michael Mumford delved into the unique challenges and strategies for treating veterans in clinical practice.

His extensive experience in veteran health care provides a wealth of knowledge for fellow doctors and prescribers of medication who are dedicated to improving the well-being of Australian veterans.

This session covered a multi-faceted approach to managing chronic pain, insomnia, mental health issues and PTSD in veterans.

The webinar also provided evidence on the safe and effective use of plant medicine treatments, assisting healthcare professionals on how to navigate the DVA process.

Dr. Mumford discussed dosage strategies, safety protocols and risk management.

Here’s a recap of the key takeaways from Dr. Mumford’s presentation and how Provocatus can support you in navigating this specialised field.

Key Research Findings and Insights

Recent research from the Southern Cross Pain Clinic and University of Wollongong highlighted significant data on drug-induced deaths and chronic pain management in veterans:

  • In 2019, there were 1,875 drug-induced deaths in Australia, with opioids being the leading cause.

  • Chronic pain has a $139 billion economic impact in Australia.

  • Using CBD/THC combined, 43% of veterans reduced or stopped opioids, 32% reduced or stopped benzodiazepines, and 31% reduced or stopped antidepressants.

This research shows the potential benefits of plant medicine in managing chronic pain and reducing reliance on harmful medications.
