Pillar 4: Health Education
Building the knowledge base for practitioners, veterans and families
National Community of Practice for Veteran Healthcare
The National Community of Practice is a free, practitioner-led peer network for registered clinicians including GPs, psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, phamacists, social workers, exercise physiologists and more, providing access to evidence-based education.
Sessions have included: safe prescribing of cannabinoid therapies; concussion and blast exposure research; treating substance use in veteran patients; understanding DVA billing codes and cognitive concerns in veterans.
We welcome the shared expertise of health professionals working with veterans.

Veteran Education
We provide education for the ongoing health management of veterans. We believe that health education and the provision of health literacy is crucial in helping veterans to understand what options are available to treat their symptoms and conditions and how these options can be accessed. By providing a range of health education, we aim to empower veterans and their families with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their healthcare.
This is an important step for veterans and families, helping them navigate the health system, taking steps to support their own agency in their transition to civilian life, and their transition to new life stages. Health education can support veterans to navigate systems that improve their wellbeing, and can improve their engagement in their community and family life.
We aim to support the veteran to build a veteran-friendly healthcare team that supports them locally: local veteran, local GP, local Allied Health.
