Veteran Health Care

The Veteran Access Scheme provides compassionate funding, information services and logistics support to Australian veterans and their families.

The Veteran Access Scheme

The Veteran Access Scheme (VAS) launched in February 2022 with the objective to resolve a health equity issue that saw Australian veteran patients disadvantaged when seeking therapeutic treatment options for chronic pain causing conditions.

The VAS has expanded to provide compassionate funding, information services and logistics support to veterans so that they can receive the full benefit of plant medicines and pharmaceutical products that may help them to manage their service-related health conditions.

Designed to complement the Australian healthcare system and access pathways established and administered by government bodies such as the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), the VAS is designed to improve veteran health outcomes by supporting patients, families and veteran healthcare teams.

Our program is supported by a number of Australian businesses who care just as much about the health and wellbeing of those who served our nation as we do.

Nigel RN

Nigel, a dedicated Registered Nurse, transitioned to this role following a nearly 20-year career in the Army. With an additional background as a volunteer pensions and welfare officer with the RSL, Nigel has seamlessly channelled his commitment to assisting veterans into his new position with the Southern Cross Pain Clinic. His extensive firsthand experience enables him to deliver comprehensive patient care, encompassing various aspects of health and well-being.

Having garnered valuable experience in multiple NSW Health Hospitals, Nigel has contributed his skills across diverse departments, including emergency, medical, surgical, and mental health. His fervour for aiding veteran patients extends beyond conventional nursing standards, as he strives to provide exceptional care that betters the norm found in typical hospital or doctor's surgery settings.

Nigel's passion lies in facilitating the holistic improvement of his veteran patients' health. He takes pride in going above and beyond, recognising that empowered veterans, armed with health and DVA literacy, not only enhance their own lives/health but will then also positively impact the well-being of their loved ones.
